BTAG was formed in the late 1980’s to promote the traditional arts.
Initially, performances were given by young people, and was supported by the Traditional Arts Project (TAPS), principally through their Artistic Director Roger Watson, and locally through Peter and Alexa Mason. Together they provided instruction in Maypole Dancing, Garland Dancing, “West Gallery” style singing, Long Sword Dancing and Mummers Plays.
The Group has developed from those early days, and now has a strong membership. There are three main 'arms' to BTAG: The BTAG Choir, BTAG Mummers and BTAG Long Sword dancers. Details of each can be found on the BTAG Activities tag above.
BTAG was instrumental in raising money in the millennium year for three works of art which were positioned around the village, the composition ‘The Green Man’ by Will Carnell which was performed by the BTAG choir in the Village Hall, and the creation of silk banners for all the village societies by local artist Liz Shearman which hang in the church on special occasions.
BTAG are always looking for new members to participate in it’s activities and those interested should contact the Chairman Nick Jones on 01794 301136 or the Secretary Lynda Boulton on 01794 301212.
